Department's Profile

The department offers courses in the following areas:

  •  Farm economics
  • Environmental and resource economics
  • Economics of organic farming.

Current research focuses on the evaluation of ecosystem services in agricultural landscapes, the evaluation of sustainable production at farm level, the economic analysis of nutrient recycling from urban sewage and economic issues of organic farming. In this context, also the effects of different policy approaches are considered. In our interdisciplinary research we make use of both linear and non-linear programming and econometric approaches. Of particular interest are farm-based ecosystem services such as the reduction of greenhouse gases and the promotion of biodiversity.
Our models are used, e.g., to analyze the effects of climate change on agriculture and to evaluate agri-environmental policy measures.
